Bio

Dafni Mengou was born in Athens and began playing the clarinet at the age of seven. Since then, she has loved art/classical music in all its spectrum. As a clarinetist, she is equally (but in a different way) excited by works belonging to the classical repertoire as well as by contemporary pieces and free improvisation.

In June 2019 she received her diploma with Katerina Lioudakis at Raymondi Consevatory. In 2023 she graduated from the Department of Music Studies at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and she is currently doing a clarinet Master’s degree with Julien Hervé in the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp. She has participated in seminars with Alessandro Carbonare, Yehuda Gilad, Sharon Kam, Harri Mäki, Ernesto Molinari, Shizuyo Oka and others. Dafni has collaborated with various orchestras and ensembles such as the Orchestre des jeunes de la Méditerranée, the Athens State Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Greek National Opera, the Greek Radio Symphony Orchestra and the ARTefacts Ensemble.

She believes that in music, as in life, the most important thing is human contact and communication. That is why she is mainly active in the field of chamber music. Playing in ensembles, she has given concerts in Greece and abroad, she has recorded for Naxos, Radio France, the Alternative Stage of the Greek National Opera and for several theatrical performances.

From an early age she was interested in contemporary music, but only in recent years has she started to work in that field. The most important part of her work on contemporary music is her collaboration with young composers. Through this collaboration, she (re)discovers not only the techniques of the instrument, but above all the function of music.
