Lethographia
Lethographia is the 2nd production of àktapha for 2024. The title of the concert is a word play between the greek words Λήθη (lethe or oblivion) and Λιθογραφία (Lithography). The concert draws inspiration from Λήθη (lethe) considering it as the human mind's ability of choosing to forget or store intense and meaningful events, images and sounds. In the art of Lithography (a form of stone-carving), for the final print to emerge, water "carves" the stone, letting intact only the elemnts drawn by the artist with the use of protective wax. By removing everything unecessary, the artist draws what they consider worthy of capturing in the stone. Similarly, Lethe (oblivion) is seen as water "carving" in our minds consious and unconcious experiences and thus shaping our life as an artwork.
Similarly to lethe, we are aiming for the music we chose to perform, to act as the "water" that will clear out all the petty and corrosive aspects of the everyday life that conceal all the meaningful ones; the inteansly positive as well as the unbereable experiences of life. Through musical gestures and soundscapes we hope to highlight those aspects of life that are worthy of remaining curved in our mind.
